Ortus Group is delighted to announce our latest completion with the merger of MWR and Walker Smith Way being announced today (9 May 2013). Following instruction in the summer of 2012, Ortus Group worked with MWR to advise on finding a party to acquire the business while taking into account the sensitive nature of several contracts with Trade Unions. After engaging a process with Walker Smith Way in September, we are delighted that both parties have agreed terms and that the newly merged business will make both businesses stronger. Colin White, Managing Director of Ortus Group commented, “origination of a deal for a business as unique as MWR was a challenge given the nature of Trade Union relationships and potential for conflicts but we recognised Walker Smith Way as an excellent fit during our early meetings. The timing of the Jackson reforms and announcements over changes to the personal injury portal were unwelcome complications during key negotiations but the commitment and vision from both parties ensured a deal could be struck that worked for everyone”.
Altaf Patel, the instructing partner from MWR said “We were guided sensitively by Ortus Group throughout the process. Colin was pro-active where necessary and was always on hand to explain anything that was unclear. He was always willing to have the awkward conversations which we would have found uncomfortable and we never felt under pressure to go in any particular direction. Colin always remained objective and gave advice which was in our best interests and kept the process on track despite some obstacles along the way”.
Consolidation within the professional services sector continues unabated and many more deals are likely to happen nationally this year. Ortus Group is currently working with a significant number of law, accountancy and IFA seeking acquisitions or sales. Please feel free to make a confidential enquiry with Colin White for Law Practice and Justin Hodgin for Accountancy or IFA.
